Here we are outside of Poplar Montana. We continue our trek along US 2 across the plains of northern Montana. The Burlington Northern railroad and the occasional Amtrack trains are our constant companions as US Route 2 parallels the "Hi-Line". Glacier National Park is now within our sights. We will begin our climb up the Rockies on Monday (Labor Day) on our way to East Glacier and will cross the Continental Divide at Marias Pass on Tuesday. It is then few days of R & R touring Glacier National Park on the "Red Bus".

2000 Miles
Boy have we come a long way since we started our journey on June 11th. Today (August 12th) we passed the 2000 mile mark somewhere between Two Inlets Minnesota and Detroit Lakes. Tomorrow we ride into Fargo North Dakota and the high plains. The Rockies and Glacier National Park are now in our sights after a long journey across the east and mid-west.

Headwaters of Mississippi River
We have now been traveling for two months. Even though the weather was very iffy when we started our day we are now sitting under beautiful blue skies. Got to see where the Mississippi River begins. It is little more than a small stream when it exits Lake Itasca, MN. Quite amazing to see and to think how wide the river becomes before it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. If all goes as planned we will pass the 2000 mile mark tomorrow and will be in North Dakota on Monday.

Welcome to Minnesota
We crossed the St. Croix River into Minnesota today & are staying in a B&B that was the original 1884 jail for Taylors Falls, MN. Almost 1700 miles beneath our tires. Wisconsin & the people we have met have been great. Look forward to similar experiences in MN.
